I Just Ate This...

We went to a Mexican restaurant here in Tucson AZ with our friend who recommended this restaurant called Mi Nidito which means, "my little nest". Based on the pictures of famous celebrities on the wall including Enrique Iglesias, man vs food host Adam who featured Mi Nidito on the show and former president Bill Clinton (to whom they named a dish to commemorate his visit in the resto), this place has gained it's reputation as one of the best in the west on my list. But the downside was, you've got to be willing to wait an hour to get a table. We did. It was crazy, but it was worth the wait.

I couldn't help myself but to be a little adventurous or be like curious George when it comes to tasting a new dish that sometimes I ended up regretting the decision. The dish called Nopalitos (Prickly Pear Cactus) Con Chile, Beans, Rice & Tortilla caught my attention.

I was intrigued. I asked the waitress if she would recommend it. She quickly shook her head before I even finish my question. So I guess that was a firm no go. However, she suggested that I get Nopalito Enchilada. I have to admit I was a bit nervous, but I put my trust on her. She seemed to know what she was doing. I had no regrets. It tasted like a bit tangy green pepper or green beans.

Mexican Menudo soup to start-up. Oh so good!

What adventure have you had lately?

  2. I have never eaten Nopalitos, but have eaten menudo. I love menudo and eat it year round. My husband eats Nopalitos and says you have to know how to cook it. My neighbor and husband are the only people I know who eat nopalitos. She cooks it every once in a while and makes just enough for themselves.
