Gift of Elegance

Hello world!
Sorry, It has been very silent here at Petites Passions. Time passes by so quickly when you are busy does it? I have been adjusting lately with my work, schedules and personal activities that I didn't have enough time to blog! I know it is temporary, just until holiday seasons are over.
Although it's kinda busy around here, I could still spare some time finding items to sell on my Etsy.

I found this gorgeous silver plated candelabra with a price I cannot refuse. I knew I had to get it before someone does!!!

So I polished it and made a few touches and put it on my Etsy store.

After only a few days, it was sold and shipped to one of the best fine dine restaurant in Chicago of 2012, which shall remain nameless for it's privacy. It wasn't shipped to the buyer's name so I was assuming it's a gift?
How exciting!!!

Passion Parade Link Soiree and Christmas tree

BLOG TITLE

Hello World!
I hope you are feeling well today. I am a little bit under the weather this week. I've been feeling sick since last Tuesday. Even our dog has a bad case of drippy nose.

I am crossing my fingers tightly wishing I would be well tomorrow for my fist day of my job. I am so excited!

While thanksgiving hasn't come yet, some people are getting their Christmas fever going on. Upon seeing the tree, surprised hubby blurted out that it's not even thanksgiving yet.!

Even Yoda gave me the "Ugh, what are you doing?" look.
For some of you who may not know that in Filipino time, I am actually two months behind the schedule.

I am sure others are with me here. I have been seeing some great Christmas inspirations like from Stephanie of The Enchanting Rose D.I.Y ornament  made of used T-shirts! So don't throw those old shirts just yet ;)

Conair Infiniti YOU CURL Curling Wand Review

My Revlon 1-1/2"" Curling Iron is just not working so well with my fine-thin hair. Using it is like not using it at all. The barrel size was too big to give me curls.
It only game my ridiculous waves like I just woke up from bed. Plus, Its taking up so much time to heat. This madness had to stop! It's think it is time for a change. But this time, I want to make things right.

photo from amazon

Like a good shopper, I searched and searched for a reasonable curling iron at amazon. I always look first for customer reviews and ratings until Infiniti YOU CURL Curling Wand caught my interest. I thought I'd try and use a curling wand instead of rounded barrel to at least try to avoid damaging my hair tips when curling.

The product description described it as made of tourmaline ceramic. Tourmaline mineral/gem is infused to a ceramic for less hair damage. I think it is nice know my curling iron is made of gem! No wonder it's shiny and sparkly!

Since this is the first time I used a curling wand, I suffered a teeny tiny minor injury. I kinda burned my ring finger which made my curling session uncomfortable.

This is my doubtful face. I felt I made a mistake! It wasn't actually the curl I expected. The waves are smaller than I wanted. It was more like a spiral rather than locks. Or maybe I just needed more practice?

But then again, I remembered Mary Louise Parker's  loose curls that I really liked. The waves seemed like nonchalantly tussled, but still looked gorgeous.

Then, the world is beautiful again! The wand size is actually great for my thin hair and created proportioned curls for nice volume. And oh! Did I mention it heats up real QUICK and so it does curl.

It may not be perfectly the same as Mary Loiuse's hair, but I got the easy loose curls I admire.
In a nutshell, I love it! For it's price, I think it is very reasonable

Porcelain VS Ceramic

Hello World!
I'm sorry it has been quiet here at Petite Passions. I've been busy this past couple of weeks. Although, I was still able to squeeze some time shopping for my Etsy store.

As soon as I spotted these two porcelain....(ummm errr ceramic?), I grabbed it and put it in my basket. I envisioned it as a great embellishments for beach themed bathroom.

I couldn't identify if this is ceramic or porcelain, and there's no label at the bottom. I guess we will never know? I looked it up in my trusted Google search and learned the porcelain are basically ceramics (made of clay) that are fired at temperatures as high as 2,600 degrees Fahrenheit instead of 2,100 and less. Compare to ceramics, porcelains are translucent when held up to light while ceramics are normally opaque. Porcelains are particularly smooth in texture with beautiful luster, more fragile.

For a long time, porcelain was referred to as  "china" or "fine china" because the process was developed in China. So it didn't mean it was Made in China like I thought it was lol!

Okay, so I peeked through it and saw silhouette of my finger and declared.. "It's Porcelain!"

I assume this isn't tea light candle holder because there are no holes in it, so I thought it could be a gorgeously purposeful as Q-tips holder or....

Cotton holder!

Oh wait! There's one more... Fill with pearl beads and it could be make-up brush holder too!

This will be available in my Etsy Store :)

My Faith In the Desert

The end of my first year in Az crept up so fast. Life as an immigrant for me is no Disneyland that's for sure.
I remember it well 2009, i came to U.S with two suitcases, one was filled with a few belongings and bulky winter coats mother brought me from thrift store as farewell gift. The other suitcase was stuffed with wedding gown and my hand carry for laptop and legal documents to get into U.S for a reason, to marry the man I loved for five years.

After our wedding, we moved to France for a year and a half where I suffered home sickness and adjustments. As soon as we came back to U.S, my first year in az was yet another story.

Being a housewife was as fun as playing house. I had fun learning the art of 'nesting'. Sooner or later, the fun has started to fading away. I started feeling bad.

I had no source of income for my freedom. I hated the feeling like a a little girl asking my husband for my wants. I had to justify the logic of why i needed a pretty flower vase. You know how men thinks.

I love being a housewife but when I started socializing with my husband's university colleagues, it created a pressure. It became pressuring when i was asked what do i do? Even their wives had something to say about their current masters degree. I had nothing more to share than i made a Christmas tree of dryer sheets. We don't have children yet or I am not in school, so I didn't have a reason to stay home and do nothing. With a hurt pride I looked and applied for jobs. I was eager but nothing was available.

In desperation, i blurted out 'i would do anything', then our pastor heard me. Our church didn't naturally hire employees but the they were very kind to make exemption and opened a temporary one for me, just until I could get on my feet.

I worked 8 hours a week. I was getting a good amount an hour. I was so excited to get my first paycheck and got myself a good sewing machine, rest are for arts and crafts to keep my blogging going. I even started buying and selling. I was enjoying the fruit of my labor (spending my own money) for the first time in three years.

The work was fine but there were times i wanted to give up specially when work required working under the scorching heat of the summer sun, and dealing with dead snakes and scorpions around. Something a city girl would not want to deal with. There was a hint of confusion and pity whenever i scrub the toilets or cleaning someone else's mess.

This is what I always see at work.
This is the landscape i see at my work. Everytime i look at it i would ask God "your creations are majestic. You are rich and powerful. The whole universe is yours. Why is your child just a cleaner?"
I felt my faith went dry. Dry as desert soil. Uncultivable.

Another silent question aroused deeply, “was I seeking to please God or was I seeking for my own glory? Pride has prevailed. I had a fulfilling job in Philippines, but here i was doing something that my mother would pay someone to do it for me.

I kept my work hidden from my family and hid it from condescending eyes. I was afraid what others are going to say especially my old friends and old co-workers. When asked how I was doing with my job, I would just say, it was going great. Some may call it lying, but I like call it being polite.

I suddenly felt disgusted about my ungratefulness of what has given to me. My ungratefulness was more discusting than scrubbing soiled toilets.

I felt rebuked by heaven through my husband. He left me a question “Do you care what others think or what God would think?”

I asked for forgiveness and asked to create in a a grateful heart. Prayer is more than just a wish list. Like what Oswald Chambers put it, prayer changes our perspective in seeing the situation in a godly way.

I found myself enjoying what I was doing while singing praises with songs as I mop the floors and wiped the glass doors. Suddenly, I have a reason to be joyful again and realized the great benefits this job has.

This is my therapy
Somehow theres something therapeutic in raking. I have created stories while raking the pebbles on the front lawn which by the way became my favorite chore as gazing at the beauty of mountains. Mountains made me forgot that I was tired from doing the physical work. My discouragements went away whenever people complimented how clean the church. Everybody was thanking me for the great job i was doing and how they were blessed with my service. Then I felt so important. I felt needed. My payed job has become my devotion. My work at the church has become my comfort zone.

Then later, I finally received a job interview. I went to the interview and was hired at the same day. This is a such a great opportunity to gain some work experience. Although my husband is a great provider, I still have to prepare myself with an adequate experience in case he would lose the ability to provide.

My heart is oozing with praise that's why i am pouring out my heart in words.

Though I got the job i was hoping for but the real blessing here was God stayed with me during the times of hurt and nothingness.

Does Fake Beauty Attract Fake Men?

This news is not new. There is a story circulating Facebook of a Chinese man suing his wife for being ugly and wins.

The story goes like;

CHINESE MAN SUES WIFE FOR BEING UGLY, AND WINS

[TAKE NOTE: THE PHOTO IS FOR MEME PURPOSES ONLY. THIS ARTICLE IS NOT FAKE. IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE BEFORE/AFTER PICTURE OF THE WOMAN, CLICK HERE:http://i45.tinypic.com/1zvddm9.jpg ]

This is n

ot new news, but it bears repeating. Northern Chinese resident Jian Feng divorced and sued his wife for $120,000 and won! The story goes that Mr. Feng was deeply in love with his beautiful wife until they had a baby girl.

Feng was horrified at how ugly the baby was and demanded to know who his wife had cheated on him with because the baby resembled neither of the parents.

It was only then that his wife confessed that she had received intense plastic surgery to look radically different. Feng divorced and sued his wife under the terms that she had gotten him to marry her under false pretenses!

Not only did the woman pay $100,000 for the surgery to make her pretty, she had to pay $120,000 to a guy who apparently only loved her for the looks she paid for.

Although, the credibility of the story is questionable. I've gone as far as 4th page of Google search in search for the primary source of the story, but all I saw were forum discussions and verbatim blog posts well.. like what I did I guess.

Given the photo that "SUPPOSED" to go with the story, I personally don't think the children are ugly, or  possible editted them into something they think classified as ugly? I don't know.

This blog does not prove the plausibility of this story but one question stands out to me.

Does Fake Beauty Attract Fake Men?

Have a wonderful day!
