From Clock to Mirror



Hi everyone! I hope you are all staying cool in this barely bearable summer heat! Our neighbors are beating the heat with a swim in the pool while I take advantage of this dry weather revamping some of my goodwill finds.



I saw this very sad clock at goodwill.  As you can see, the covering of the was blurry not because of the glare, but it was scratched badly that the cover is beyond saving! It was in bad condition but I saw it as a potential desk mirror.



I thought it would be nice to paint it with gesso to give it a chalky texture and make it look vintage-y. You can get gesso paint at craft stores such as Michael's. You can find it at art supply section.


I spray painted it first with gray primer. Then I used Liquitex Basics Acrylic Gesso. I chose this because it seemed to have a thicker consistency. 
I love it because it dries so quickly! When it was dry, I gave it a distressed look.


The frame wasn't round enough to fit a perfectly round mirror so I had to hammer it a bit. I brought the 7" mirror at hobby lobby (Michael's have it too. You can find it along the candle making section).
I made sure the mirror is glued well in place. Then I covered the back with adhesive felt and finished it with a wooden applique.

This mirror will be in my etsy store, ready for a new home.

How To Add Social Media Icons

This blog started as a personal page to keep my family and friends from Manila updated on what's going on in my life.

Along the journey, I never thought I would meet many people and new friends from around the world. Most of them really inspired me to take blogging a little bit more seriously.

Now, apart from my own personal social networks and emails, I finally managed to get Petites Passions to have it's very own, Facebook, e-mail, Pinterest and Twitter like I've always wanted to and so I could get more connected to my bloggy friends!

I tried figuring out how to add those social media icons on my blogger such as this.


It is actually very easy. The only time consuming part was choosing which icons, because there are a lot of cute icons to choose from!
First, you have to find the images that you want to use. You can make your own or search for
some freeebies. However some are not for free. There are actually a lot of very nice social media icon set for free. Just read carefully the terms and conditions. Some of the contributors just want a link back.

Here are some samples of nice sets of icons I pinned in my Pinterest

There are a couple of ways to put the icons on your blogger, but I'm gonna tell you what I exactly did with this particular icons I chose.



I chose this set from leelou blogs. I find it so cute and easier. I didn't have to upload the image to image hosting site, and at the same time, I am giving credit to the designer.

 If you click the link leelou's link, you should see each banner has the code below. You will need that code later.

So, then go to your blogger dashboard then click 'layout'. Add a Gadget and click 'HTML/Javascript".


Copy and paste this code in the box

change the red highlighted link to your link.

do the same thing if you want to add another icon, but in the same box.

However, it's a little bit different with 'mail' icon. Instead, use...

then click save.

Passion Parade Friday Link Soiree

It is trully wonderful to host a link party. It is quite entertaining. PLus, I get to meet new friends along the way whose creativity are just eye catching...

Like Ashley of Ashley's Dandelion Wishes. You might remember making this when you were little. She used this idea as a table centerpiece for her cousin's baby shower. Not only the colors and pattern are fun but, so does playing with pinwheel too!



When I think of summer, I think of citrus fruit and color yellow. This Lemonade Pie recipe by Barbara of 21 Rosemary Lane summed up my summer thoughts. A summer delight so yummy!



This table make-over by Susan of Simply Vintageous will be in my coffee table inspiration. She did an amazing paint job making it a little shabby but classy!

4th of July tote bag and Questionable French Fry?

I just want to wish all proud Americans out there happy independence day!
Hubby and I celebrated the day at In and Out by having an animal style burger and a questionable french fry?



As much as I love watching fireworks, I don't think we will be seeing one tonight. The weather here today is not cooperating. We are having some thunderstorm going on. *bummer

So, In celebration of this day, I am enjoying hubby's company and also I made an american flag inspired tote bag.



I gave a faded touch to an american flag clipart using a free editting tool called gimp.



I used a technique of image transfer using Liquitex Matte medium gel.

This tote bag is now ready for all American fashion!

Independence day Inspirations


I've seen some of you finished with your star spangled crafts and red white and blue colored desserts and recipes that are trully trully amazing and all ready for the coming celebration of independence day even through as simple as home decor and recipe.

I just can't wait to try this simple cheesecake tart made by Aimee lane of Its Overflowing.


Found this beautiful wreath in Pinterest and I thought, what a cute idea to use clored burlaps and denim fabric! Brooke of All things Thrifty shares this idea from her neighbor. She also shared where to find a tutorial how to make this beautiful patriotic decor!

I am so impressed with Americans how much they embrace this special occasion. I respect their patriotism big time.

As for me, I went to a different direction, instead, hubby and I had a John Adams mini series marathon.


I gave Paul Giamatti an applause on his great acting. He made me laugh. He made me cry.
 The film was well made. I haven't read his biography nor knew all about American history to tell if the film was historically accurate. However, hubby said it was the most of what he learned about John Adams compare from what he learned from school.
It was a fun way for me to learn the history of american independence in preparation for my citizenship.
